Kitchen Brick Backsplash

Happy Valentines Day! Today, I wanted to show you what we used to do our backsplash and a little bit of how we did it. Or I should say how Will did it!😂 He said that putting up the brick is the easiest part. It’s the grouting and wiping down the brick that’s just super tedious! It’s all so worth it though, and I love love love the way it turned out! It gives it that rustic farmhouse look that I love!

I will show you a little bit of video and some before and afters, and I will link the brick and everything we used here also! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask! If you have trouble viewing the videos. Please let me know!

This was the kitchen just a couple months ago before Christmas! The microwave was still there and we left the wall under the cabinets the yellow color that it was, because we knew that we were going to put brick there! The rest of the kitchen has been painted Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams!
As you can see, I wasn’t sure what color the brick was when I was recording this! lol Here you’ll see them close up and I got them from Home Depot! You’ll see they come in sheets on mesh, so they’re a bit easier to work with! The hardest part is making the cuts for them to line up on the wall and around the outlets!
This is the adhesive that we bought to put the brick on the wall! Will loved it and said it worked great! We needed 2 buckets of the glue for 33sqft, but he barely touched the 2nd bucket.
This is the grout that we used from Lowe’s! It came in several color options and we chose white. It has a sealer built in and easy to work with! For our 33 sq ft of space, we used 3.5 bags of grout!
We took off the granite backsplash first and then patched up any large holes that it caused, to make sure we had a flat surface to work with!
You’ll notice that some of the bricks have a white haze on them. Some are darker than others. We didn’t use any of the grout on top of the brick nor did I white wash them.
A time lapse of Will beginning the brick on the wall on the other side! You’ll see him applying the glue and making cuts as needed around outlets and making sure they meet up with each other evenly!
More of the same, but with a little bit more detail around the outlets! He also uses his tile cutter here. This one ended up breaking shortly after this and he bought a bigger and better one. I will link that one below!
Here is the new tile cutter that worked much better. Also from Lowe’s. Some of the bricks fell off the mesh when taken out of the box, so he just put them on separately. The mesh sheets make it easier though, to make sure that they’re all evenly placed and more can go on at once.
This is him finishing up the last piece in this corner! When doing end pieces such as this one, you’ll measure, cut and then glue them on separately!
Note if you have under cabinet lights!
A little out of order, but wanted to show you that we needed a total of 4 boxes of brick to finish it up. We had 33 square ft of wall space to cover, but make sure you always have extra for mistakes and extra cuts! We used 3.5 of the 4 boxes!
Here, he is finishing up and doing the tiny pieces at the top of this wall behind the sink. Make sure the outlets are all brought out before grouting, as far as possible, and we bought over-sized outlet and light switch covers to fit over the brick!
What a difference grout makes!!
After grouting, wait a few minutes to let it set, and then make sure all of the bricks are scrubbed with a wet rag before it completely dries, so that you don’t have grout on top of the brick!
Before Grout
After Grout!🙌🏻

    1. Hi Dana, for some reason I’m just now seeing this! The paint color is Dove White in Valspar cabinet paint! So sorry for the late reply!

    1. Hey there! So sorry for the delayed response! The granite was here when we moved in, so unfortunately I have no idea of the name!😬
