DIY Coffee Bar
Happy Friday ya’ll!! Today over on IG and Facebook, I shared a pic of my coffee bar, that my husband and I created after we took down an awkward wall between our kitchen and living room. The wall was thin and attached to this wide space, so before we even took it down, I was trying to decide what to do with that space that I knew, inevitably, was going to be weird and drive me nuts! I’m so happy with the way it turned out! I wanted to have that walk-up, coffee bar cafe feel! 🙌🏻 I’m not sure why the previous owners had that wall built there, as it was closing off the space, and definitely wasn’t entertainment friendly. The only reason I can think of is for the extra cabinet space that they used that wall for. Although, we still have plenty of cabinet space without it, and we have now moved all of those cabinets into our sitting room, and eventually, will make it into a wet bar.
We weren’t positive that the wall wasn’t load baring, so it took us awhile to take it down, but one night while drinking(which I do not recommend)😂 we said, “lets take it down tomorrow!” At least we waited until the next day, right?🤷🏻♀️ So, we did, and thank God that it wasn’t load baring! The space and openness that it created was amazing! I was already in love, but, when taking down a wall, not only does the ceiling have to be repaired, but also the floors! So before taking down a wall, always keep these things in mind! We thought that we would be able to find our same flooring easily, because it was so traditional, but when we went to go find it, we found out that they discontinued our flooring in 2012! Uggggh So, we got the idea to take the flooring out of our large hall closet and replace the kitchen flooring for the time being, and bought a similar color for the closet. That is our current situation. Now, hopefully this coming month, we will have to replace the whole first floor with floating wood flooring, as it is supposedly great with pets, and not as hard or expensive as real wood flooring. We plan on getting a professional to install it, just for timing purposes! I am excited to get new flooring though, as I’m not a huge fan of the color of our current flooring. We will work on the staircase to stain the steps and rail to match!
Here are a few before and afters, and a couple of videos of us knocking the wall down, and putting up the shiplap that Will made himself! Much less expensive than buying it!
